These are my updated drafts taking into account the feedback I got from the interviews I took. I annotated the bits I added. I added additional stories, changed my masthead and added 2 more pictures on the double page spread.

This is my audience feedback I have gathered for my music magazine cover draft, double page spread draft and contents page drafts. I interviewed 3 students and asked them 6 questions. All the students thought the colours of the magazine were bright and I stuck to the 3 colour rule. As red was my masthead colour, they thought this was good as it ties in with the RnB theme. They all thought the articles were something they would read as they seem interesting however, some of them would like to see articles about the latest news and information about boy bands like One Direction or artists like Justin Bieber. They thought the masthead was appropriate for the magazine although another masthead example one student came up with was Swaggie. Some things they would change on he magazine is adding more pictures on the double page spread and adding more stories on the contents page.
I will take into consideration all the feedback I have been given and do three more drafts of the cover, masthead and contents page making sure I include the feedback given to me by students.

I decided to use the name Swag for my magazine as I thought it was more catchy and no one else used the name therefore I thought I would be different.

More people thought I should call my magazine Flavor or Drop The Base. Only 2 people liked the name Swag which shows that it is not as popular as the other 2 therefore I will have to choose out of the remaining 2.

The questions above are the questions I am going to use for my questionnaire. 

Research and Planning double page spread analysis

This is a double page spread from a RnB magazine. I can tell it is a RnB double page spread because of the way the model is portrayed. She is more open and comfortable with herself whereas in some pop or rock magazines, the models are always well dressed. This double page spread talks about Alexandra  Burke winning the X factor.  The layout of this story is different to other double page spreads because most of them have smaller images whereas this one has one image which is the centre of attention as it is made to look like big news. The 3 main colours on this double page spread are pink, black and white. These colours suit the magazine as they are not to outgoing, they are basic colours that make the page look fun and exciting to read. The way the text is sectioned is easy to read as it is clear which bits are the stories because they are in black. On the other hand, the pink text could be speech of what she has said or what someone else has said abut her. The text is in paragraphs and each paragraph has its own subtitle which is good as the reader knows what each bit is about and the text is not all crammed up in one space.

Research and planning, contents page analysis

This is a content page from a RnB magazine. I know it is a RnB magazine because of the models used. These models are RnB artists. They represent these models to be cheeky yet fun and fashionable. Nicki Minaj (on the right) looks very cheerful and happy whereas the other model looks serious as her make up is darker compared to Nicki Minaj who's make up is more colourful. The target audience for this magazine looks to be for students aged 18-21 as the contents page takes about fashion which many students enjoy, especially girls. Also, the text style is more feminine. The layout of the contents page is very simple yet elegant. They don't use a lot of colour, the main colours are grey and black. These colours look like they are blended in to make the background a bit grey which could be the colour of silver. they could be trying to get this colour to show wealth. It also means the models stand out more as they have more colour to them so the reader won't miss them. The text is small which could mean that they are not trying to make the reader read the text but focus more on the images. They have made the title "Contents" their own because it does not look too simple, it is more exciting.

This is my music magazine collage that I have designed. I used pictures from different magazines and chose the pictures that I thought looked good on the magazine. I chose these certain features as I thought they were sensible and appropriate for the type of genre I am focusing on. I have noted all the features and described them and wrote what they were and why I think they have been used.

I can tell this is a RnB magazine because of the type of language they use for example, "Notorious" this word is mostly used by rappers.  The audience of this magazine looks to be for girls that enjoy a little gossip as the cover lines are to do with gossip, for example, "Why is Drake so angry". The layout of this magazine is very posh yet gangster. It is well thought out as it expresses the hip hop style in a very elegant way. The model on the magazine is very serious which makes the reader feel like she is in charge and she loves how she feels as she is portrayed as being a queen of hip hop because of the crown on her head. She also looks very proud of herself. They use the colour orange a lot which would signify how hot she is in terms of her being the biggest star in the word and because her hair is orange as well, there is a link. The shot type of this magazine is medium shot as it is from her waist above. It is a way to show a close up of her jewellery and her crown which shows that the magazine are trying to make her look like she has everything. I can tell the target audience of this magazine because the artist is a RnB artist which is a big give away. Also, the masthead is very RnB because it sounds like the music sound that plays in RnB music. This magazine is very formal and stylish which attracts the RnB audience because of the style that the model has. It will attract more male audiences because of the cover lines, they are more masculine rather than feminine even though the model is female. however, some of the cover lines could attract females for example, "Why is Drake so Angry" this can attract the female audiences as they like gossip sections in magazines.

This magazine is very different to the one above as this one looks to be for men only. Men that want to look good and feel good. The cover lines on the magazine seem to be very sexual which could indicate that the target audience could be for males. The model on the magazine looks to be proud and a bit rude because of how he is shown on the magazine. He looks like he is a gangster and he is showing off because if how rich he is. They use a medium shot to on this magazine to show how stylish the model is with his expensive watch, ring and glasses. The colours of this magazine are very masculine as they have used colours that are mostly for boys and not girl. This is also another clue that this magazine is for men. The target audience would be more male because the writing is more masculine and the attitude is for males as the model is swearing and you wouldn't find a female model swearing on the cover of a magazine. They would be dressed more stylish and formal. The magazine colours are not as bright which attracts males more. Blue is the colour that is associated with males.

These are my 3 Masthead designs that I have created on Photoshop. I have used these colours as they stand out and they match the magazine type I want to design which is a RnB magazine for girls. I have made sure that the colour of the mastheads are not for men as my main focus is for women.
